I have picked up where Nanny Adams left off in 1977. We all wish we would have listened more carefully to her stories. I wrote many down and Nanny gave me all the information she knew. This is where I got the marriage certificate of my great great grnadparents. Raising a family I didn't have time to research my roots but my kids are grown and the grandchildren need to know where they come from. I wish she was here now to answer some questions for me and help finish this project.

Our Great grandfather on grandpa's side was Robert Adams. He was born in Bootle, England in 1861. He came to America in 1877. He was a blacksmith. My grandfather was born of his second marriage to Rebecca Stewart Gibson. So I am overseas researching his parents and their parents.

Our Great grandfather on nanny's side was James Mc Cann b. 188I in New York. More on his family later.
James Mc Cann married Helen O'Connor b. 7/11/1883. Her parents were Mary Anne Doyle b. 1851 St John's New Brunswick,Canada, d/o Daniel b. c. 1820 and Catherine Doyle b. c1828 both in Ireland, and Terence O'Connor b.1849 Ireland. Terence's parents are not yet known.

James Mc Cann's parents were Amelia Somers and unknown Mc Cann. Family story has it that James' father died when he was 2 and then he was raised by his Italian stepfather whose name we think was Dinofrio or Giovanni. Great grandpa worked at the docks as security. The 1920 NY census lists his occupation as private detective. Our family history is pretty colorful.

This year will be our Fourth Annual Family Reunion. My hope is that this project will be in good order by then with lots of research work for my family to do. I am finding out the more you find out that more people you have to research.

Next Reunion is August, 2004 in honor of Aunt Lucy Cassano Adams. A great light in our family has gone out and we will miss the lady with the funniest stories and the best laugh forever. So everyone bring their favorite Aunt Lucy stories and pictures.
