This Family tree was assembled in in conjunction with the first Mailand Family Reunion held August 9 1987 comemerating one hundred and fifty years in America from October 2 1837 to October 2 1987. a great portion of this tree and history was contributed by family members compiled and assembled by Richard Mailand of Decatur, Indiana along with a host of others.
In recent times a major contributer to this tree is Richard Scheimann of Valperiso, Indiana whom along with his wife have compiled a stagering amount of research digging into land and public records. They published some 4,400 names in CD #1 of World Family Tree to which I attached my input from the reunion book "The History And Descendants of Wilhelm and Wilhelmina Mailand" by R. Mailand and another input from David A. Schroeder to acheive the compilation here in assembled.
Many of the original emigrants left Prussia (Germany) for land on which to farm and raise their children since land was scarce an owned by rich land barons, they left Prussia on sailing ships returning to America to pickup cotton for the booming linnen and cotton fabric manufacturing industry, with out the emigrants these ships would be returning to America empty, loaded only with ballast, a completely unreimbursed trip until the begining of the emigration.
Ships now had a paying cargo imigrants, most of whom brought money to purchase land most sponsered by the church, friends and relatives who had previously imigrated.
