Descendants of Serkes (Sarkous)

Generation No. 1

1. SERKES1 (SARKOUS) was born Abt. 1650 in Greece.

Notes for S
ERKES (SARKOUS):
The story that was passed down in the oral tradition was that Serkes was one of two brothers from a landed and royal family from one of the Greek Islands. There was some type of family dispute between Serkes and his brother, reputedly about inheritance or leadership. Serkes left, probably under duress and possibly in flight, for the shores of Lebanon. The story is that he journeyed into the Lebanese mountains, settling in the shadow of Mount Hermon where the saga of the Michael and Cantees Families begins.

The next generation is indicated by a sole male, Nickola, who had two sons, Mickel and Cantees. These single named males are the ancestors of the modern Michael (Mickel, Mickael) family and the Cantees family. Mickel had Nickolas, who had Farris. Farris seems to have had five sons, one of which was named Radwan. The descendants of RadwanI sometimes use the surname Radwan, sometimes Mickel. Also, Mickels use the Michael spelling sometimes, as well. This makes tracing the lineage more difficult.

The tradition in the Lebanese culture is to name your first son the name of your father, so to keep lineage straight, I have used the father's first name as the middle name of the son. This has helped to prevent impossible duplication of names. I have also had to number the early ancestors how duplicated their grandfather's names, this being the case in the Radwan and Michael families.
