A Native Floridian's Family TreeUpdated September 5, 2000 |
I am a seventh generation Floridian, due to my extensive Minorcan heritage. I am the direct descendant of 12 Minorcans who were members of the Turnbull Colony that came to "Les Mesquites" (now known as Ponce Inlet) in 1768. After living in New Smyrna for nine years, the Minorcans settled in St. Augustine. There is still a large Minorcan presence in St. Augustine today. My Minorcan names are Masters (Mestre), Hernandez, Rogero, Vila, Andreu, Manusi, Rayo, Capo, Sintas, Segui, Mir and Castell. I am also researching my Sedding, O'Neil, Hays and Cason roots in Hamilton, Columbia, Nassau and Duval Counties in Florida. My Northern roots stretch to New York and New Jersey where I am looking for primarily Irish ancestors - Freel, Downey, and Dawcey. If you have any information that you would like to share, I would greatly appreciate it. |
