* ADAM[S] Family Ties*

Updated March 19, 2010

Our ancestors, who were of German descent, were originally from an area in Prussia which is now Poland. They moved to Volhynia [Ukraine] in 1836, and then in 1879, came to the U. S. and settled in Franklin County, NE. Drought and extremely bad winter weather caused most of them to leave NE about 1881, when some families went to Waupaca County, Wisconsin. Martin Adam, Samuel Adam and a couple of Zeismann families went from NE to Columbia County, OR by 1883. They left Franklin Co., NE in February and didn't arrive in Columbia Co., OR until that fall. Then, in late 1890, Martin took his family from Oregon to Waupaca County, Wisconsin and Samuel remained at Scappoose, OR.

Surnames include Adam/Adams, Kluth, Klinner, Lange/Lang, Lemhouse/Leemhaus, Harms, Gerber, Bangert, Lyon, Petterson, Buszin and many more. Many of our relatives are buried at Graceland Cemetery in Clintonville, WI. Many relatives still live in Waupaca and Shawano Counties.

Also working on the MESSERSCHMIDT family of Shawano County, WI and looking for more information on descendants of Gustav, Albert, Wilhelm and Ferdinand (Fred) Messerschmidt.

I received much of my information from various relatives and also found lots of useful information on the internet. Research is ongoing to find more family history and also to get information on the younger generations.

Please feelfree to contact me if you are somehow related and we can share information. We have not been able to find several of the descendants of Samuel & Julia Adams who had lived near Scappoose in Columbia County, OR and need your help.

FYI: The reports on this site are not current and are a couple of years old. Please contact Pat for current information. This info is to be used for informational purposes only. Do not submit it to any organization or web site without my consent.
