We are researching are: MIERAU, STOBBE, PENNO, NICKEL, SPERLING ,WELLS, WURTZ,NEUMAN and the Peter Martens family who live (lived) in Neu Samara Russia.
My grandparents, David and Susanna Mierau, along with my father Henry Mierau, and siblings, immigrated to Canada in 1925. They immigrated from Gnadenfeld, Molotschna Colony. Prior to Gnadenfeld they had lived for some years (1910 to 1920) in the UFA Colony, approximately 1500km south easterly of Moscow, Russia.
We are related to the Mierau's in Reedley,Kingsburg, and Fresno, California. We are also related to the Mierau's that are from the Henderson, Nebraska area. I am also related to Lauren Friesen who works at the University of Michigan. His mother (a Mierau) is linked to my Mierau lineage as well.
My ancestry ties back to a Peter Mierau, born 1810. Some of his siblings moved to Nebraska. Some of those Nebraska descentants eventually landed up in Langham, Saskatchewan.
My mother's ancestry can be viewed by scrolling down and selecting Katherine Klassen. My grandmother on my mother's side was a Stobbe. When her husband Aaron Klassen passed away she married a Jakob Nickel.
We are also researching my wifes ancestry, the PENNO family that came from Zhitomir in the 1920s. They were Lutheran. We would appreciate hearing from any Penno family that are researching their Penno roots.
March 2006. My father passed away at the age of 94 1/2 yrs 2 yrs ago. We are now going through his many photographs, including the ones they took on a trip to Neu Samara Russia in 1975. Of interest to us is the Peter Martens family that married into the Stobbe line. I have images of Peter Martens family over a 20 year period but do not have an address of where they are living. I do know they have grandchildren in Germany as I found a photograph of Peter and his wife taken in 1997, "visiting the grandchildren in Germany". If anyone recognizes these people, and knows where we can contact them,or their children, we would appreciate hearing from you as to their current address.

High school photo. We have in our possession an original German script letter that was written by David Mierau in 1950. This letter was sent to his cousin Dr. Peter Mierau who was by this time living in Germany before immigrating to Canada in 1954. David Mierau states in this letter that he was born in Furstenwerder Village, Molotschna, Russia. Dr. Peter Mierau and my grandfather were doing family research during those times. I obtained that letter, along with other important documents, from Dr. Peter Mierau on February 25, 1997. Translation was provided by Judii Rempel and Dora Epp of Calgary.
