Notes for I
SAAC MILLER:
By Paul B. Miller:
Sources: Carleton Co., N.B., Census 1851 Parish of Wakefield, lists the family by name, relation and age. Harriet is 26 years of age, wife, Elizabeth Jane, 19, daughter, Stephen, 8, Lucy, 7, William, 5. It also includes John Prior, B. June 1830 in England, who was a hireling farm servant.

There were probably other children by Hannah Parks, but they are not in the household in 1851.

N. B. Provincial Records, Frederickton, N. B.: Woodstock Anglican Church Records: Isaac's baptism was in the Anglican Church in Woodstock, N. B., by Rev. Dibblee.Isaac's father Isacc was listed as a Northampton farmer. In the Woodstock and Northampton Anglican Church Records, Baptisms 1812-1830, he was baptized 14 July 1817, "of age, farmer."

See John Allan Miller letter, Aug. 8, 1908. In this letter written to Herbert Miller in Admire, Kansas, by John Allan Miller from Seattle, Washington, Isaac's father's family is discussed in depth. He says Issac lived in Jacksontown between Woodstock, N. B. and Houlton, Maine.

The Carleton Co. Sentinel, 31 July 1849, reports "a barn belonging to Mr. Isaac Miller of Jacksontown was destroyed by fire, together with a quantity of hay, a sleigh. and several other things."

Calvin Miller notes: Isaac married (1)Mary Jane Nesmith in 1831.(2) Harriet Nelson, in 1842.
Harriet's maiden name proven by death record of son William.
(See notes on discussion of marriages for Isaac Miller, b. 1767/70 and son Isaac, b. 1795.)
It is possible that there were more children by Mary Jane Nesmith and Isaac Miller, since there is a gap of 12 years between Elizabeth Jane, b. 1832 and Isaac's next child b. 1844
In previous notes, It has been recorded that Isaac had a farm on the third tier of lots in Jacksontown. I have in my possession, a list of members of the Jacksontown Church (1876) obtained from the Hartt family website. The Hartt family were also located in this area. On this list are several of Isaac's descendants including William, Stephen, Isaac's wife Harriett, and several others. This list can be viewed at: http://myhartt.com/church/church.htm
Source, Main Site: http://myhartt.com/index.html
Many thanks to the Hartt family for making this available.

Notes for I
RA MILLER:
By Paul Miller:
Sources: Carleton Co., N.B., Census 1851and Provincial Archives, New Brunswick, at Fredericton, "Baptisms, Mic. Marriages and Burials of the Anglican Church of Woodstock, N. B., 1491-1838. "Isaac's children were baptized on 14 July 1817: Iva (Ira) # 1001. Salome Esty Hartley, "adult spinster," of Woodstock was also baptized there on 14 July 1817. Isaac Miller certified Ira was his son, 22 years old on 18 Apr. 1818. Ira filed a land petition on 6 Mar. 1819, for 360 acres above Falls Island, land applied for by A. Easty in 1814, but not improved.
Married by Rev. E. Dibblee at the Anglican Church, Woodstock.
In a petition to Major General Sir Archibald Campbell, Baronet G. C. B., Lt. Gov. and Commander in Chief of the Province of New Brunswick, Parish of Wakefield, County of Carleton, Ira states he is a British subject, desires purchase of 150 acres, lot # 14, 6th tier, Presque Isle, settlement in the Parish of Wicklow and the County of Carleton, adjoining East of lot # 15 purchased by Abraham Cronkite, 4 shillings per acre payable by installments, no improvements made Nov. 4, 1834. Other sources: New Brunswick, Canada Census 1851, P. 210; gravestones at Tracy Mills Church; N. B. Archives, land records; Barnett & Sewell, "Loyalist Families," P. 22.
Dates of birth and death for Ira Miller and Salome are from an internet inquiry by Joan Miller at http://www.rootsweb.com/-nbcarlet/01queries.htm. Also, Joan Miller, "Descendants of Ira Miller," by Email 30 July 2001, luxe@kerv.net, shows Ira and Salome's marriage in York Co., N. B., according to "York Co. Marriages," Ira Miller of Northampton Parish married Salome Esty Hartley of Woodstock Parish, 6 April 1821 by Frederick Dibblee, rector of Woodstock, witnesses: Oliver Miller and Maria J. Dibblee.
Frank Crosby (Email: crosbyfj@ime.net) in his file "Ancestors of Ruby Miller," page 8, gives Salome's birth date as Oct. 1796 in Wakefield, and confirms her death date as 8 Nov. 1865 in Tracy Mills, source: Tombstone. He also notes a Land Petition - 1818 Ira Miller: "That your petitioner as a native of the Province and has ever resided therein. That he is a single man and has never received any grant or allotment from the Crown - pray your excellency will be pleased to grant the vacant lot at Woodstock next above the lot received for a Pickle and marked in the plan by the letter 'C'. It contains about 360 acres and is included a short distance above Falls Island - that the said land is in its natural un-occupied state. that the petitioner to the Royal Instructions - and also that he has not directly or indirectly bargained or acquired for the sale or transfer of the same to any person or persons what-so-ever and is bound prayer forever. signed Ira Miller." Also, "on the 18th day of November 1818, Grant Cooper, one of his Majesty Justices of the Peace, for the County of York - appear personally before me the above named person Ira Miller and made under oath that the several matters and things in the aforesaid are true. The petition has been described is vacant, same applied for in 1814 by an Estey but not improved by him. I verify that Ira Miller is my son and the age of 22 years, signed Issac Miller."
Also: "Land Petition - 1834 Ira Miller. To Major General Archibald Campbell - Lt Governor of New Brunswick,'' as shown above with the exception that the lot 14 is in the 5th tier (not the 6th tier) and is dated 2 Sept. 1835. There is a note: Lot already given to Snodgrass. Also, "Deed - county of York Book 21 page 339, Ira Miller to Levi Grant. I Ira miller and Salome my wife in the Parish of Wicklow, County of Carleton for 150 lbs. to Levi Grant - Parish of Southampton, Dumfies - now York Co. - easterly corner of Lot 'D' - formerly Parish of Woodstock - granted to me in a grant dated 20 Sept. 1820 - description is SE corner of St. John River at eastern corner of Lot "D" granted to John Dow - 360 acres in aforesaid Grant of lot 'D', dated 8 Nov. 1836, signed by Ira Miller and Salome Miller."

See John Allan Miller letter, Aug. 8, 1908. John says Ira settled in Presque Isle, Maine. This appears to be an error, but the 150 acres of land for which he petitioned was near Presque Isle(River) in the Parish of Wicklow, County of Carleton. Tracy Mills is on the Presque Isle River.

By Paul Miller:
From P. F. Miller notes and Joan Miller, "Descendants of Ira Miller," by Email 30 July 2001, luxe@kerv.net. See also John Allan Miller letter, Aug. 8, 1908. This Isaac may the one that John refers to as Isaac (3) who lived along the St. John River above Woodstock.
*****************************************************************************
I don't think this is the Isaac that John referred to. I believe John was referring to Ira's brother Isaac-born in 1795. John did mention this Isaac (Ira's brother); "He says Issac lived in Jacksontown between Woodstock, N. B. and Houlton, Maine."

It seems to make sense that the Isaac of Jacksontown would be referred to as Isaac(3) since his father was Isaac and his father was also Isaac.
1880 United States Census. This could be our man although only speculation. He may have emigrated to Wisconsin as did others of the Miller family.
