Notes for David Clinton Nichols:
Nichols came from England, through Virginia about 1800.About 1979, David's great-grandaughter, Carrie Nichols Broyles wrote a personal journal opening with the reference to Grandpaw David Clinton Nichols, "the best Grandpaw in American History!"He was 10 when the Civil War started. He didn't go to war but brother Billy did alongside their old mule. Skilled as "muleskinners" they helped the Army of the Confederacy wherever they could, mostly in Northern Alabama and Southern Tennessee . They were closet to the battlefield by just swimming across the TN river to plow or plant their crops. He married Adeline, a German girl and had six children. Regularly told his grandkids how much he loved them. They would hug his neck each night. He was a tall man with pretty, thick white hair and was kind to all. He worked in the fields until three days before he died at 73 (uknown family genealogy site r/t Caroline Reddin)
