There were two Thomas'in N. Alabama -- Limestone and Lauderdale Counties, AL in 1850.

Thomas enlisted and served in the SC Militia at various times from the winter of 1777 and 1778 under Captains Thomas Weems, Joseph Pickens, William Strans, and Colonels Andrew Pickens and Robert Anderson. He was in the battle of Kettle Creek and the siege of Ninety-Six and served in all about two years. He was allowed pension on his application executed October 22, 1832, while a resident of Limestone County, AL. (From Mrs. WF Robertson, Gonzales, TX, in a letter dated May 29, 1928, entitled "Rev. and 1812 Wars Section.")

A marker has been placed by the DAR for Thomas Holland.

A Thomas is listed in both Limestone and Lauderdale Counties, AL in 1850. The Thomas in Lauderdale Counties is NOT the same Thomas in Limestone.

The Probate Minutes of Limestone County indicate in Vol. 1830-1834, p 153 there is something for him.

"Samuel Robertson and his family came to the [Big Spring] in 1808 and established a trading post at waht would become the southeastern corner of the courthouse square [in Athens, Limestone Co, AL]. Soldiers from Fort Hampton later forced him to give up the post to William Wilder, an event that led to an eventual fight and Wilder's death when Robertson returned to reclaim his land." (from "Historic Limestone County Alabama: A collection of stories and, incidentally, a little bit of history" by Robert Dunnavant, Jr. Athens, Alabama: Pea Ridge Press, 1995, 6.)
