Erma Mae Snyder (d. date unknown)
Notes for Erma Mae Snyder:
Erma was the oldest of three children born to W.H. and Tennessee Maude Smith Snyder. Her mother died quite suddenly when Erma was but 15 years old and the burden of helping to raise two younger siblings became a part of her young years. She married Charles Edwin Wimmer in 1921 and they became the parents of 5 children, over the next 13 years.During the Depression when jobs were hard to come by (at least for men) she went to work for the first time in her married life for Att. Fletch Hammond and later at the County Court House in Moab, Ut. When the family moved to Roosevelt, Ut in 1936, she went to work for the local bank under Ray Jordan.
When WW11 broke out, in 1941, the family moved to Salt Lake City and lived in a home purchased by Erma, at 272 S 10th E. During this time she continued to work (Even though by this time Ed was also working) for the Bureau of Mines located in what was then the Post Office Bldg. on 4th S and Main.
When the family moved to Crescent Jct, Ut, in 1947, Erma no longer had a need to work for several years. Then in 1951, she lost her husband suddenly and other than a small income generated by the Service Station and Cafe she now solely owned, it became necessary for her to return to work again, this time as Clerk of the Grand County School District, a job she held until 1967. She also worked as a Stenographer during legislative sessions at the State Capital in SLC during this time.
Erma had Masonic connections going back at least three generations and could have gone into the Order of Eastern Star much sooner, but preferred to go in on the Masonic credentials of her husband Ed, who had just completed his degree work shortly before his death.
She went on to become Worthy Matron (several times) and was also Grand Warder and Grand Chaplain of the Grand Chapter on separate occasions. As Worthy Matron she had the priviledge of initiating three members of her own family; daughters, Bette and Bobbe and daughter-in-law Geri, as well as three other candidates on the same night. This co-incidently occurred during the Grand Visitation by Worthy Grand Matron Georgia Roach and Worthy Grand Patron William J Ross, in May of 1956.
Erma had a brilliant mind and phenomenal memory; although at times she appeared caustic, she was a very loving and caring person with regard to all family members and supported them in many ways both monetarily and emotionally. (Bobbe Wimmer Kidrick)
