New developments in the Bradford DNA project have linked our line to George Bradford of Orange County, N.C. who migrated to Jackson Co., Georgia around 1800. One of his sons, John, went to Lauderdale, Tennessee.

We have been eliminated as descendents of Richard Bradford of Virginia through the DNA project.

To see the results of the study thus far see live links at the bottom of this page for The Bradford Family Genalogy and DNA Project by Becky Mosely and Adam Bradford or the Bradford Project. We are Haplotype R1b and our modal type is a Bradford descendent from Hereford, England. I encourage Orange County Bradford researchers to contact me to add information here, but more importantly contact Becky or Adam to add your lineage and join the DNA project.

We need direct male descendents from Orange County to help define our line. Since we theorize that Thomas, David, George and William were brothers, sons of David, Sr., we need participants who are descended from David Jr. and William to help prove or disprove this.

Surnames: Aikman, Bradford, Carrigan, Cole, Ford, Garrison, King, Lashley, Lynch, Mastin, McCauley, Waller, Wilhite, Douglas, Ray, Hamilton, Warnick, Smith, McAdams, Faucett, Christopher, Younger.

Oh, for a family Bible!

We know that Thomas Bradford Jr and his brothers, John and William Bradford, migrated to Indiana about 1815, but history fails to mention Thomas Bradford Sr. who owned more than 500 acres called "Sugarland" plantation.

My cousins around the country and I continue to work at returning our line to the fold as cousin Jack London would say. Besides Jack London, David Bradford, and John Fox - countless others are working on this project. Many of our Bradfords descend from Thomas Bradford Jr., founder of Greene County, Indiana. We are researching his father, Thomas Bradford, Sr. who died in Daviess County in 1823.

Several family members witnessed Thomas Bradford, Sr's Will in 1824 after it was found to be inoperative because it had only one witness. The witnesses who signed in 1824 were Jesse Lynch, Martha Lynch, George Lashley, Mary Lashley, William Bradford, Jane Bradford, Elizabeth Bradford, John Bradford Frances Bradford, Thomas Bradford, (Jr.), Martha (Garrison)Bradford, Hance Stalcup, Anna Stalcup, Thomas Warnick, Lydia Warnick, David Bradford and Jerry Bradford. They were not all named in the Will.

Were it not for the Will and a copy of a deed for Thomas Sr's purchase of land on the west fork of White River in 1814, we might never have known he went to Indiana. We have not located his grave and do not know who his wife(wives) or parents were.

To help other researchers, I have included the Bradford marriages in Orange County, NC in the files below. We have found marriages of Thomas Bradford to Elizabeth Hamilton and Thomas Bradford to Martha Hamilton, David Bradford to Maryam Hamilton. William and George Bradford also married Hamiltons.

The Bradfords who lived in the eastern part of Orange County and those from the area west of Hillsborough may have been related, but the eastern group migrated to South Carolina in the late 1770s and were completely gone by 1780 according to land records. Our Bradford land entries(see profiles) mention various landmarks which lie west of Hillsborough, NC in what is now Alamance County are definitely connected to the Indiana Bradfords.
