Dorothea VanDyk

Funeral services for Dorothea "Dora" VanDyk, 93, of Oak Harbor, will be at 4 p.m. June 29, 1992, at the First United Methodist Church of Oak Harbor, with the Rev. David Lura officiating. Mrs. VanDyk was cremated and interred by her family at Maple Leaf Cemetery in Oak Harbor. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Burley Funeral Chapel, Oak Harbor.

Dorothea VanDyk died June 25, 1992, at her home. She was born Feb. 22, 1899, in Oak Harbor to Christian F. "Chris" and Eva Margaretta (Lang) Weidenbach. She was raised on the Weidenbach farm on Ducken Road. Her father homesteaded 120 acres of Ducken Road, near Cornet Bay. She attended school in Oak Harbor and completed the eighth grade.

She married Albert VanDyk Oct. 19, 1921, at the Coupeville Methodist Church. She and her husband lived on Izett Avenue, which is now 300th Avenue East, from 1921 to 1939. In 1939, the original Weidenbach farm was divided and she received half of the land. She and her husband operated the farm until his death in November of 1968.

Mrs. VanDyk was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Oak Harbor, a member of the Eleanor Warne Circle of the church, and a charter member of the Cornet Bay Hospital Guild and the Cornet Bay Fire Department Auxiliary.

She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Juanita and Delmon Anderson of Oak Harbor; one son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Betty VanDyk of Oak Harbor; six grandchildren and their spouses, Robert VanDyk of Anacortes, Connie and Rick Fakkema of Oak Harbor, Doug and Micki Anderson of Richland, Roger Anderson of Sedro-Woolley, Jeffrey and Donna Anderson of Burlington, and Judith and Bruce Biddle of Oak Harbor; and 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert, and by six brothers and sisters.

Memorials may be made to the First United Meghodist Church or the American Cancer Society.
