Bob,
I only have the abstracts. A couple of years ago it was impossible to get a will from the DC Archives. They just ignored you.
Barton's wife Margaret is obviously from Charles County but I have never been able to find her maiden name despite the clues in her will. Margaret's will mentions my other 2 gggg-grandfather's in DC John Bell Ferguson and Joseph Fugitt (Thomas M. was his son). John Bell Ferguson was a DC commissioner and Joseph Fugitt owned a Lumber Yard. Barton owned a Brick Factory. John Bell Ferguson was also very prominent in the Methodist Protestant Church. They all belonged. Joseph Fugitt (Fugate) named two of his sons for my other two grandfathers. John Ferguson Fugitt and Thomas Milstead Fugitt. I love to tell that story.
To John Milstead and William Milstead, natural sons of my brother Peter Milstead, an undivided part of the tract of land in Charles County, Maryland, formerly belonged to my father, said 1/2 part of tract which is next to the Glebe, except I acre including the family graveyard.
All of the balance of property real and personal to wife, Margaret N. Milstead, son Judson Milstead and daughter Elizabeth Ann Travers, to be divided equally between them. To wife, my family watch, all ready money on hand, debts to be paid before my personal estate is divided.
Margaret N. Milstead of City of Washington 8 April 1843 Read 03 October 1843
To Mary Elizabeth Harbough, daughter of Jerome Harbough and Martha, his wife, City of Baltimore, Maryland, one negro boy named William Henry, a slave for life. One looking glass to Francis Maria Milstead, daughter of Ignatius Milstead and Charlotte Maria his wife, one brass or copper teakettle. To John Travis, son of Levin Travis and Elizabeth his wife, my silver watch when he attains the age of 15 years. If any money on hand upon settlement of my estate, to cousin Elizabeth Marshall, $50.00.
To Ignatius Milstead, of Charles County, Maryland Lot 3 in square 701 in fee simple; also negro man named Jeff and a negro woman called Rainer, slaves for life. Manumit and set free Negro woman Nancy and her present and future inrease; she be suitably provided for by Ignatius Milstead and my niece Mary Thompson.
To niece Mary Thompson of Charles County, Maryland, wife of George T. Thompson, Lot on which I now reside in square 701, being Lot 1 and also Lot 2 in same.
