178. Alfred James⁵ Miller (James Willis⁴, Stephen³, Absalom², Jacob¹) was born April 16, 1876 in Illinois, and died October 31, 1931 in Carrier Mills, Illinois. He married Dana Thorn, daughter of Eli Thorn and Mary Harris. She was born June 07, 1881, and died January 29, 1931.

Obituary taken From Merchant's Weekly Vol1 No. 45 Nov 6, 1931:

A.J. Miller, one of Carrier Mills leading citizens, was strickenat 1:30 Friday with paralysis while down town and was moved to his home and medical aid called but to no avail as he passed away about 3:00 o'clock. Mr. Miller was 55 years, 5 months and 16 days old and was preceeded by his wife just months ago.

A.J. was familiary known w(unreadable) one of the towns leading citizens, being in the general merchandise business here for several years, but had turned his business over to his son L. C. Miller since his wife died.

He was the father of Beulah Strickland of Harrisburg and L.C. Miller of this city and leaves his aged mother Rebecca Miller and one brother Edgar, who owns the hardware and undertaker business here, and three sisters, Mrs George Hutson, Mrs Cleave Shaw and Mrs John Turner.

The funeral was held to a large crowd at the first Baptist Church Sunday at 2 o'clock, Rev Motsinger and Rev F. J. Weir of Eldorado officiating. Internment was at Salem. The pall bearers were A. Turner, H.C. Henderson, E. Williams,
Festus Arnold, Virginia and Hubert Finney.

Carrier Mills has losted one of their substantial citizens and b(unreadable) relatives and friends a real freind.

She married (1) Monroe Shaw October 03, 1901, son of Jessie Shaw and Martha. He was born August 10, 1855, and died July 16, 1936. She married (2) Grover Cleveland Shaw July 14, 1917 in Saline County, Illinois. He was born March 10, 1885 in Williamson county, Illinois, and died February 10, 1970 in UMWA Hospital, West Frankfort, Illinois - Bonor Cemetery.
