Before the United States was even a Country, the Millers had settled in the backwoods of Virginia(Augusta Co.). It did not become West Virginia until around the Civil War. The area of the current county of Greenbrier(Augusta Co.) was mostly settled by Scotch-Irish during the emmigrations of the 1740's so it is only conjecture that they might be Scots. If they are they might have come from the area around Loc Loumond and would be part of the Clan MacFarlane. The family emmigrated across the country through Tennessee, Kentucky, Missouri by the 1800s, to parts beyond. The first known Miller was John Miller who married Barbara and had 8 children and baptized two of them in the Tinkling Springs Church in Greenbrier County or the current Monroe County area(Augusta Co.). He owned land on Wolf Creek.

The Millers married into many families. Kinkead, Garten, Swinney, Boyd, Story, Stephenson, Anderson, Young, Jones, Basham, Kenny, Fulkerson, Eads, Rogers, Mulkey, Maupin, Craig, Applegate and many more since.

By August 1998, my Aunt Lorna had gone to Salt Lake City to research her maiden name and her first husbands family. While there she found some information about the Millers that I could really get my teeth into. At that time the internet became a major tool. I have located many new "cousins" and am working with them to create as complete a Family Tree as I can. New information comes to my attention all the time so I can truthfully say it will never be really complete.

Now in 2009, my niece is doing the genealogy of her fathers family, the Poe's. Information can be found through searching Genealogy.com.

After more than 40 years of study of this family, there is still more to learn. Anyone can contact me with info.
