Hildegarde's Virginia-Kentucky Branch HomepageUpdated September 5, 2000 |
CALLING ALL BLANKENSHIP, BAXTER, SMITHSON and TYRE COUSINS! Please let me know you exist. I want to know the stories in my family. I am researching the BLANKENSHIP family of AMHERST COUNTY, VA. Also the BAXTER AND TYRE FAMILIES of VIRGINIA and KENTUCKY.I am the great grand daughter of WILLIAM HENRY BLANKENSHIP and SALLY NANCY BAXTER BLANKENSHIP of Pedlar Mills, Virginia, the parents of FELIX BLANKENSHIP, born 1883. Felix was my grandfather. I'm also seeking information about location of the Blankenship home site near Pedlar Mills Va. It is now a park. Sally N. Baxter Blankenship and Felix Blankenship left Pedlar Mills when Felix was about 10 and moved to Frankfort Ky. I do not know if The Blankenships separated or if William Henry died. Sally is listed a widow on her death certificate, but she lived until 1923. My grandfather was still able to find his home in the late 1950's, just prior to his death, and there was still an old gentleman in Pedlar Mills who remembered Will Smithson, grandpa's older half or step brother because they had played together as children. I an also researching the family of WILL SMITHSON, Sally's son and Felix's older brother. Will was a Methodist circuit preacher and served in the Spanish American war. I don't know who his father was. Sally Baxter was born in 1853 in Lexinton or Frankfort Ky. Her father was a Baxter, first name unknown, I do not know where he was born. Her mother's name was Tyre, first name unknown, and she was born in Virginia. John and Lucinda Tyre Baxter appear in the 1850 and 1860 Kentucky census for Franklin County Ky, but Sally does not. Sally had a tie to a man named Felix prior to 1880 or so. Sally Blankenship died January 30,1923 in Cincinnatti, her funeral was at Theodore Homer Funeral home there and she is buried in the Walnut Hills German Protestant Cemetery. FELIX BLANKENSHIP had three children in Louisville Kentucky, They were Elsie,1907-1983, Felix 1914-1918, and Hildegarde 1919-1972. He also lived for a short time in Flint, Michigan. |
