Before leaving Georgetown, he sold some of his belongings to his father-in-law. The Bill of Sale was witnessed by Philip B. Key, uncle to Francis Scott Key. The document was dated March 23, 1806 and was recorded by the Recorder Of Deeds, Washington, DC. The following is a transcription of that Bill Of Sale.

"Know all men by these presents that I Matthew Kennedy of Georgetown and District of Columbia have for and in consideration of one hundred dollars to me
in hand paid and for the payment of five hundred dollars which I owe to John Hines the father of my wife have granted, bargain and sell to the said John Hines his executors administrators and assigns, one waggon and fory horses and set of traces compleat and three feather beds all of which I have this day delivered to him as his property in presence of Elisha Crown and Daniel Hines; To have and to hold the said waggon, horses, gears and feather beds to the said John Hines forever as his own absolute property."

In 1811, the family moved to Moorefield Township, Harrison County, OH where Matthew obtained 160 acres of land on section 31and again built a cabin. Matthew stayed on that land until 1814 when he moved to section 13 of Moorefield Township and obtained 320 acres. He built his third cabin there. His grandson, Salathiel, was to farm this last acreage in later years.

It's interesting to note that Matthew's will is dated February 13, 1847; Five days before his death.[Miracle,Kennedy,Bloxom,1.FBK.FTW]
