Thomas was a member of Reverend Ezekiel Rogers' company, composed of some twenty families of parishioners of Rowley, Yorkshire, England. They came to New England in the "John" from London. The company arrived in Salem, Essex Co., MA in December 1638 where they spent the winter. By April 1639 they were joined by another forty families and went to settle Rowley, MA. "The place was probably selected on account of its pleasantness, its nearness to the river, and the abundance of thatch that grew upon the river banks." (Tenney)

He had an acre and half house lot in Rowley. (Early Settlers of Rowley)

Tenney had grants of land in 1661-67-70-73-74. He was ensign in the militia company. He was town marshal in 1653-4 to 1666. He gave the official warning of town meetings in 1650-53-60-61-66.
