I am researching the Mitchell line as well as other surnames in my lineage.I have come up against a stone wall around the late 1700s and early 1800s.I believe that my great-great-grandfather, William Mitchell was born circa 1797 in Virginia and my great-great-grandmother Rachel Thompson or Dougherty in North Carolina.Any help with my research is requested. The roots of my family tree are deeply buried in the eastern part of the United States, primarily the states of Indiana, Kentucky, Virginia, and North Carolina.Indianapolis, Indiana is my hometown and Indiana is home to most of my ancestors.My great-great-grandfather, William Mitchell, was from Virginia and his wife Rachel from North Carolina. I was born and raised for 17 years in the Indianapolis area, then in 1959 my parents moved to California. I am a Hoosier by birth, and my heart still resides there.Many of my aunts, uncles, and cousins still live in Inidana.
