"WIR SIND EIN VOLK ------ WE ARE ONE PEOPLE"
The Families Mueggenborg, Moeggenborg, Moeggenberg
This work is dedicated to:
BEN & LIZZIE MOEGGENBORG
Always with a strong religious background, they raised a large family with loyal and stable footings based in love. Each son and daughter carried on this trait with their own families. This forms the Moeggenborgs.
To the Families,
One of the biggest problems, was the many spellings of the name, Mueggenborg, Moeggenborg, and Moeggenberg. There may be more spellings, but they haven't appeared yet; this has made it pretty hard to put it all together. While working in the Internet, I found a whole group of Mueggenborg's in Oklahoma. Could they be part of our relatives? The immigration papers for Barney are written Mueggenborg but Frank, his stepbrother says that Moeggenberg is the correct spelling. Who knows? Maybe someone else can unscramble. This is why "WE ARE ONE PEOPLE.
Language changes, carelessness and a high degree of illiteracy (sometimes the man himself did not know how to spell his own name) compounded the number of ways a name might have been spelled. Often the town clerk, church authority, or doctor would spell the name the way it sounded to him. Most German names are derived from occupations, colors or locations and linked with warlike characteristics.
Many of the cousins, that had been lost for sometime, have been found and I have had may hours of conversation, either by phone or by computer, with them and their families. It was fun, finding out what had been happening during the missing years.
This is just a start. I hope that each family will carry forward with the search. Know where you came from. With this information, you may find others of our family. The newer generations have relocated almost all over the United States, but the majority still live in Michigan and Ohio. I would appreciate, if mistakes were made, let me know and they will be corrected. I will try to keep you updated, if you will furnish me your address. Keep in touch.

ACKNOWLEDGMENTS
First, I would like to thank James and Clarice Decker for the gentle push to get me started. Clarice had been working on the family tree for several years. Much of the history for the family of Harry and Henrietta had been completed by her and kept updated by her sister, Marilyn Klein.
Special thanks to Ollie and Zelma Moeggenborg and Frankie and Jerry Turnwald for the great start forward. Their advise, unending support, patience and willingness to help, kept me going. Knowing that this family history was important to them, made the effort worth while. I hope that they will not be disappointed.
Tommy and Barb Doepker, Larry and Nancy Moeggenberg, Marge Moeggenberg, Lois Moeggenberg, Mart Moeggenberg, all gave the extra help which was needed. They all have graciously shared their time, their resources and their knowledge so that I might complete this book.
Many thanks for encouragement from all families to get this history recorded. Only by their cooperation and sending their family information, could we have gotten this much done. Most welcome were offers to translate German from the Internet. I was having problems, and it was greatly appreciated; from one I have never met.
A special, super special thanks to John Wilberding for his help, finding Great Granddad's brothers and sisters names, his father, and locations in Germany where they lived and grew up as children. I was having quite a time, until he told me that there were two Barneys. It finally, answered the question of relation of Gus and Gerties family. I will continue to work further back, if possible, through the news groups with Germany, with his information. You can never know; when you may contact the correct person. They just might be part of our family.
