Notes for G
EORGE WASHINGTON MONTGOMERY:
When George was seven years old, Julia, his mother, became ill with compsumtion or TB, on February 19, 1884 Julia died. While she was on her death bed Bob (Thomas Franklin his father) met a woman named Eliza and they became friends. George saw this relationship as being more than a friendship. Then when his mother passed away, he blamed his father. Before the funeral, George made his plans to run away, he prepared everything he would need. After the funeral George and his father had one final argument, then George left for good.

He made his way down the Ohio River to the Mississippi and got a job on an oil barge. He worked his way to New Orleans on that bardge. When the oil bardge arrived in New Orleans he was hired to work on the docks. After working on the docks for sometime when got a job working with the Rio Grande Railroad. He worked until it's completion in Colorado. He was then hired on as a cowboy at one of the local ranches in Colorado, where he would herd cattle and wild mustangs. Sometime later George was thrown from one of the mustangs while breaking it. He injuried his back was unable to work at the ranch any further. He left Colorado and made his was to West Virginia.

George landed a job working for the Northfork and Western railroad as a telegraph operator in Trace, WV. This is where he met Delphia McCloud. They would have to been a site, cause George was over six feet tall and Delphia was barely four feet five inches. On December 25, 1904 they were wed. In 1905 George and Delphia moved to Thompson Ridge in Wayne County where George worked herding cattle to Lousia, Ky. and farming. He also owned a small grocery store.

Sometime between 1930 and 1940, George and Delphia sold all their holdings in Wayne County and moved to Mingo County where George purchased a track of land, 134 acres, for $2,500.00. The small village was called Belo. Here he set up a produce business. He would travel the roads to the small stores and sell them produce.

George and Delphia were the first family to have television. People would come from miles around just to watch the picture in a box.

Notes for D
ELPHIA MCCLOUD:
Delphia did alot of gardening. So much that you could say that she was a farmer. She would can all of her vegetables. During the winter when all of her neighbors did not have enough to eat she would give the canned vegetables out. She was loved by everyone in Wayne County and she became known as Aunt Delphia. When the women were ready to have their babies they called none other than Aunt Delphia to be the mid-wife. She delivered many children during their stay in Wayne County.

Because of her kindness Thompson Ridge was renamed to Montgomery Ridge and it holds that name today.
