Notes for ROBERT BRUCE ALAIR: Newspaper Clipping: Robert Bruce Alair On Sunday, Sept. 10th, there passed from our midst at the home of Mr. Judson Brown, in the Township of South Cayuga, an old and esteemed resident, Mr. Robert Bruce Alair. He was the eldest son of the late Bozzle and Elizabeth Alair, and was born Apr. 30th, 1837, at the home where he died, and has spent practically all his life. About forty years age he married Mrs. Cinderella Brown, who predeceased him Jan. 12th, 1916. He leaves to mourn his loss four sisters, Mrs. Mary Ann Furry, Pt. Rowan; Mrs. Eliza Rowe, Dunn; Mrs. Jno. Sexsmith, Embro, and Mrs. Isaac Dickhout, Moulton. One sister, Mrs. Jno. Deamude, South Cayuga, and one brother, Mr. George Alair, Kippen, predeceased him some years ago. He leaves one stepson, Mr. Elton Brown, South Cayuga, and one stepdaughter, Mrs. Jabez Dickhout, Wainfleet, four step-grandsons, eleven nieces and seven nephews, besides a large number of other relatives and friends. He has enjoyed fairly good health until about four months ago, when an attack of acute indigestion followed jaundice, and other complications caused his death. About fifty years ago he joined the Baptist Church, and in his younger days, and as long as he was able, was a very active worker. His home and heart were always open to the Master's work. In politics he was a life long Conservative. The funeral, which was largely attended, was held on Tuesday, Sept. 12th, with service in the South Cayuga Baptist Church, and interment in the adjoining cemetery. The floral offerings were: Sprays, from Mr. and Mrs. Elton Brown, Mr. and Mrs. Judson Brown and family, Mr. and Mrs. Allison Lymburner; wreath, Mr. and Mrs. Jabez Dickhout. The pallbearers were John Lovegrove, Joseph Fathers, Albert Rittenhouse, Alex Caughell, George Vasbinder and Isaac Hoover. |
