Notes for Martha Elizabeth Catharine Rounds:
Grandma Grafford No More:

Died at her home in our city, Friday evening, May 23, about 11:30 after an illness of several weeks duration. Mrs. Elizabeth Grafford, the cause of her demise being senility, age 84 years, five months and 18 days.

Funeral Services were held at the M.E. church Sunday afternoon at 2o'clock after which all that was mortal of this grand old mother was tender ly conveyed to our Silen City, where she now rests in peace.

The deceased was a mother of a large family, thirteen children being born to the union, eight of which are living and four being present during her last days on earth, but all reached the age when they too have few "silver threads among the gold" as a reminder that they, too, are nearing life's sunset.

She ran the journey of her life in better than 84 years. It is a path marked with deeds of kindness and cheer. Flowers, not thorns, sunshine not shadows, did she scatter everywhere . With these she was lavish. Truth was the inspiration of her life and by kindness she exemplified its great worth. Was not her life full of God-likeness.

Elizabeth Catharine Rounds was born at Toledo, OH on the 5th day of December, 1834. When very young she came with her father and mother to Clayton County, this state, settling near Dubuque, where she grew to womanhood. She was united in marriage to Thomas Grafford on the 4th of September, 1853, and soon after their marriage they moved to western IA. Forty years ago they came to Woodbury County, and 37 years ago they came to Danbury. Mr. Grafford died on the 23 day of June, 1892. The children that were with her during her last hours were Henry and Elon of this place and two of her girls, Medames Evaline McGlashen and Maggie Thompson, both of Homer, NE. The others that were unable to attend the funeral were: Thomas and Eddie of St. Paul, Mrs. Abbie Andrews of Riverton, IA., and Eugene of Huntington Beach CA.

Let us, if possible, gather up the elements of the life of the departed one and weave of them a picture for the walls of memory. The book of life was opened and a new name was written therein by the hand of love.

To her the struggle and burden bearing of the earth are ended, and we confidently trust that like one who awakes from a troubled dream she has awakened to see life's endless morning break and knows herself at home with all the vast throng of loved ones, missing from earth, safe about her.

Several people from out of town were present at the funeral, among them being two auto loads of the Prichards of Onawa and two auto loads from Hornick.
