Wheeler's History of NC
8 November 1775 to KY, See Jersey Settlement, NC
!Occupation: Planter, tailor
!Residence: Virginia, North Carolina, Kentucky
!Religion: Baptist

William married Unknown Turner while living in the Commonwealth of VA, around 1769-1770. (Arriving at this date because their first born child, John H. Denham, was born in VA, on May 6, 1771). (Taken from Bible records.)
William Denham and his wife migrated to Rowan Co., NC (now Wilkes Co.) when the son, John was an infant in arms. Carolina was calling, the area where land was cheap and religious convictions were not questioned. Their second son, Obidiah "Obed" Denham, was born there in 1773. (Evidence found in Pulaski Co., US Census of KY in 1850). Early tax records are hard to come by in Rowan Co., NC, but William Denham's name was found in the 1776 tax records of the Yadkin District which later became Wilkes Co., NC.
Certain Revolutionary War records of NC reveal the fact that William Denham did serve during the war. On Wednesday, November 8, 1775, he was cited to appear before the Committee in Rown Co., to render an account of his political sentiments relative to American Freedom. (Taken from John Hill Wheeler's "History of North Carolina".) It is reasonable to believe that he entered the services of the Revolutionary War soon after that date. *In the records found in the Department of Archives in Raleigh,NC, William Denham's name appears in tthe "Revolutionary Arrmy Accounts". A list of certificates to be paid to the Comptroller for Taxes, as follows: "The year of 1787, including those for the years 1784 and 1786." (File No. 1056, Raleigh, NC). One will note an absence of births from 1775-1777.
