We are researching the following surnames, beginning with the locations identified: Campbell - Starting with Thomas Campbell, born about 1802 in Kentucky, married to Margaret.Their son, John T. Campbell was born in 1827 in Tennessee.John married Nancy Ann Richards (born in Kentucky) in Richland County, Illinois.John and Nancy's son, Nicks Alvin Campbell, married Rebecca Alice Crabtree on October 27, 1883, probably in Edwards County, Illinois. The Campbell family connections extend thereafter to Cass, Schuyler and Wayne Counties in Illinois, to Marion County in Missouri, Scott County in Iowa and to places in Indiana. Crabtree -The Crabtree branch includes Edwards County, Illinois and extends back into Tennessee and Virginia. It connects with the Mading family, also from Tennessee, with its roots tracing back to Virginia.. Phillips - Starting with the marriage of Charles Phillips to Mary Brombeck, probably around 1801 in Kentucky.Their son John, and spouse Elizabeth, had six children, including George H. Phillips, who migrated to Illinois, where he married Rachel Cordelia Pyle on March 21, 1857.The Phillips family appears to have lots of branches in Cass and Schuyler Counties in Illinois, including Beardstown. The branches extemd to Hannibal, Missouri (Marion County).Connecting branches include the Farrar family (one connection in Pekin, Illinois) and the Zuelke, Hunt, Schiesl, Dunn and Graves surnames. Icenogle - Starting with Christian Icenogle and Elizabeth, possibly in Virginia.Their migration pattern included Indiana, Kentucky and Illinois. One of their sons, Peter married Rosanne Underhill in Kentucky.Their son, William Jasper Icenogle, married Hanna Viola Woods in Schuyler County, Illinois on August 19, 1877.They, in turn are the parents of Rosanna Icenogle, who married Jesse Orland Phillips on March 7, 1894 in Birmingham, Illinois. The Icenogle family appears to be concentrated around central Illinois during the 19th century. Moore/Kelly - Starting with the emmigraton of Mathew Moore from Limerick, Ireland in 1851, and his wife Mary from Ireland, in 1852.The Moores first three children were born in Rhode Island, including a son, Michael Patrick Francis Moore. The family moved to Davenport, Iowa sometime before 1860, where Mathew and Mary had twelve more children.Their daughters married into the surnames of Ames, Burke, Cawley, Gainey, Martin and Mazer. Michael P. F. Moore married Elizabeth Kelly (born in 1860 in Peru, Illinois) in Lacon, Illinois around 1882.Elizabeth's father, Thomas Kelly, also was an Irish immigrant.Census information is inconsistent, indicating Thomas' immigration dates as 1844 and 1852.Thomas, a coal miner, and his wife, Ann, lived in Sparland, Marshall County, Illinois. The Michael Moores were pretty much settled around Scott County, Iowa, where Michael and Elizabeth had six children, with the daughters marrying into the surnames of Bruha, Davenport, Dowdal and Mellick. Coombe/Schlegel - Starting with William Coombe and Emily Musk, both immigrants from England to Canada, where they lived in Toronto in the 1870s.Their son, Robert Henry Coombe, emmigrated to the United States, in Chicago, in 1906 and became a naturalized citizen in 1910.Robert Henry Coombe was married to Josephine Amelia Schlegel, another Chicago family. The Coombes, and apparently some of the Schlegels found their way to Davenport, Iowa. Not surprisingly, the Schegels connect to immigrants from Germany (Peter and Amelia), probably around 1850. | |
