Notes for Juan-Bautista II Marquez: According to 1960 letter from Virginia Seal, a Marquez descendant, Jaun Bautista Marquez came to Louisiana in about 1803 on a ship called the Creole Bell. It is said that he owned this vessel, and was merchant before settling on Bayou St. John as a fisherman.
In 1825 Juan Bautista Marquez served as witness to a marriage a the St. Louis Catherdral. This was located in Sacramental Records of the Archdiocese of New Orleans, Volume 16 (1824-1825). The entry reads as follows: "Alvares, Joseph Maria (Lucas and Ursula of this city, m. Ysaval Ravelo, October 14, 1825, w. Juan De Castro, Jose Mateo, Juan-Bautista Marques, and Joseph Reyes "(SLC, M7, 71).

'FESANT LEGROS, Ysavel [Father - Juan Fesand (sic) LeGros and Francisca Jacob Bengue}, native and resident of this parish, married Juan Bautista Marques, July 30, 1821 (SLC, M7,3) (Source; Sacramental Records of the Roman Catholic Church of the Archdiocese of New Orleans, Volume 14 (1820-1821).
