Norman Bernard Conlin, born September 13, 1885. Born in Coburg, Canada. Served in the Canadian Expeditionary Forces twice (see Canadian National Archives) once in 1914 and signed up again in 1917. Norman was Roman Catholic. He stood 5' 8", had black hair and blue eyes. Was a switchman and brakeman for the Grand Trunk Rail Road. We know he lived in Battle Creek Michigan in 1926 at 356 Cliff Street. He was married at that time to Mary "Foley" Conlin. They had one child Edith Mary. In 1917 Norman lists his address as 182 Caron Ave., Toronto, Canada. Norman is listed in the 1901 coburg census as a lodger. We do not know where or when he died. We know his wife was insitutionalized in 1926 in Kalamazoo, Michigan and friends cared for the child, but do not know what ever happened to the wife. The child was ultimately made a ward of the courts through the Calhoun County Branch of the Michigan Children's Aid Society-her guardian was Mrs. Estelle Gable. |
