A Chairde!!!!
My Irish roots include the Moran, Walsh and Kennedy families of Ballybunion, County Kerry and the Hett, Murphy, Ruane and Connelly families of Lisnagroobe, County Roscmommon and County Mayo. In 1999 I began a quest to find my Irish roots. After submitting an article to a local newspaper in Ireland, I was contacted by a possible relative and discovered that I still had a cousin living on the old Ruane homestead in Lisnagroobe, Co. Roscommon Ireland where my great great grandmother was born.
I am continually discovering new information, and find it so interesting to find that I am related to Henry David Thoreau, Frank Lloyd Wright, Eli Whitney, Elizabeth Barrett Browning, Johnny Appleseed, Winston Churchill, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Sally Field, Diana Spencer, the fun never ends. I am still trying to find a link to the Mayflower and thought I had discovered it, but much to my chagrin it may have been false hope. It appears there is no proof that Stephen Hopkins was married to Constance Dudley, or that my 9th Great Grandmother, Bethia who married William Kelsey was a Hopkins, back to the drawing board!
I hope anyone related to these families will contact me with their stories so we can fill in all those lovely blanks and who knows maybe one day soon, we can have a Ruane/Hett reunion in Ballinlough, a Moran/Walsh reunion in Ballybunion, and a holiday in Killarney. Le cunamh De!!!
I have also traced my mother's family (all English), some of the surnames are:
Adgate, Barrett, Browne, Burgess, Bushnell, Chapman, Clark, Field, Foster, Head, Garfield, Glover, Hapgood, Ingham, Jones, Kelsey, Lovet, Morse, Parkhurst, Pitcher, Pratt, Spencer, Squier, Thoreau, Tuttle, Warner, Whitney and Wright. These families all emigrated during the "Great Migration".
