Matthew Morry III (1813-1854)

Matthew Morry III (1813-1854)
This is reputed to be a portrait of Matthew Morry III, the grandson of the immigrant. The portrait is in a large oval glass covered frame and is presently in the possession of Howie Morry in St. John's. It came to him from his brother Jamie at the time of his death, who had in turn received it from Jean Morry Funkhouser. It was she who identified it as Matthew Morry. But there has since been some suggestion that it is actually Matthew's brother William Sweetland Morry. It will be difficult if not impossible to reconcile this uncertainty now. The portrait hung for years in the house of Thomas Graham Morry where Jean Kavanagh Morry now lives.
