This photo shows Howard Morry (tall man in hat, second from right at back) with members of his unit in the field in the Somme prior to the Battle of Beaumont Hamel. It is likely that many of those shown here died or were wounded in that battle as Howard Morry was one of only about sixty or so in the Royal Newfoundland Regiment who was not injured or killed; 22 officers and 658 ranks were casualties of that single battle.
