The Morgan Family Home Page
The Morgans I'm interested in arrived in America from Ireland around 1855 and first settled in Massachusetts before coming to Rhode Island about 1857. John Morgan was the head of the family and had 8 children (between 1858 and 1871) with his wife, Margaret McGuinness, most of whom stayed in RI. His parents were Walter and Mary Morgan in Co. Mayo, Ireland. John had a sister, Elizabeth, who married a Patrick Shea in 1858 and nothing has been found for them in the RI records, etc. Believed John also had a brother(s) that also came to the US and perhaps stayed in MA. One son, Thomas Morgan, left in the 1880s for Pennsylvania or New York and is the real mystery man of the family. Tom's brother, Walter, had a son, Joseph, who left RI around 1912 and ended up in Montevedeo, Minnesota, married a Hanna ? and had son named Walter. Joseph returned to RI in 1919 w/o wife and child and died in 1920. Sound familiar to anyone?? |
