JACQUES HUDON: After French revolution with CHEMILLÉ
In the history of Chemillé, place of origin of PIERRE HUDON-known as-BEAULIEU, one can recall towards the end of the 18th century, a Jacques Hudon, contemporary of Pierre, whose ancestral line is not established yet. This Jacques Hudon was a priest. He would be deceased between 1802 and 1825. Here briefly some notes about it: Following the French revolution of 1789, the constituent Assembly with the capacity voted the civil Constitution of the clergy on July 12, 1790. The dioceses and parishes were transformed, the bishops and the priests owed from now on to beings elected by citizens even not catholics. Priests and bishops were to lend oath to it. The Black and white Pope VI condemned this constitution. A scission was created in the clergy of France: on the one hand the swearers, those which accept the oath, on the other hand the non-jurors which reject it,
The priests of the four parishes of Chemillé formed part of the non-jurors. One of them, Pierre-François Cochard, lent initially oath, then retracted publicly. It will be off-set thereafter in Spain and there will die. Its vicar, JACQUES HUDON, made the same step. Moreover, it joined the Vendean army (which was formed because of this Constitution) and was even one of the authors of the first rising of the population. It was also the first to push the inhabitants to be made note their state-civil by the public officers. It would have remained several years at the family Cesbron de Chemillé, disguised as a miller. If Jacques Hudon had initially accepted with enthusiasm the fraternal principles of the revolutionists: Freedom, Equality, Fraternity, it was turned over against certain abusive applications of the new leaders. In 1792, in a village called Pontonson, one reports that Jacques Hudon, after having confessed 19 republicans condemned to be shot, made them escape by with shootbeing shot, made them escape by by-paths. The military Vendée against the civil Constitution of the clergy will be overcome, but will succeed in by its actions making devote the recognition of the catholic worship by the signature, July 15, 1801, of the 1st Legal settlement. Jacques Hudon will become cleaned thereafter of St-Pierre de Cholet.
