Find Family

The Morrison's of Victoria, Canada

Updated September 5, 2000

I have just started researching my family roots. I'm trying to find out more about:

1. The Morrison's and MacLeod's from the Isle of Lewis. My grandfather (Donald Morrison, 1876) was born in Fivepenny, Kess, Barvas to were Angus Morrison and Gormelia Maclean. My grandmother (Mary Macleod, 1877) was born in Lower Shader, Barvis to Kenneth Macleod and Annabella Macleod (brothers Dan and Norman). Both my grandparents emigrated to Quebec, Canada.

2. The Cook's and Meyrick's of Nuneaton and London. My grandmother was Clarissa Cordelia Meyrick (1895; information please) and my grandfather was Horace Bradnick Cook (1894). We can trace my grandfather to William Cook (1838).

3. The Vrooman's from eastern Canada, New England states and The Netherlands. My we can trace my wife's grandfather's lineage to Adam Vrooman (1649) who travelled with his widower father (Hendrick Meese Vrooman - 1617) and his siblings to New York state. He married Engeltje Blom to produce Wouter Vrooman (1680) in Albany who married Martyje Hallenbeck. This line goes back to Huygen Vrooman (1545) but we can't trace it farther than that. Other names in this line are her grandfather (Fulton Schuyler Vrooman, 1882), Rhoda Johnson (1818), Margaret de Peyster Mattice, Rachael van Woerd, and Mary Whiteside (1844). Her grandmother's was Verna Arletta Davison (1886). We're currently seeking informtion on Cornelius Vrooman (1556) who may have been an artist or poet, and Hendrick Vrooman (1526), both in The Netherlands.

4. The Hunt's and Charles' from London, England. We can trace my wife's grandfather's line to John James Hunt (1833). Other names in this line are Isaac Sammuel Hunt (1871) and Rose Eliza Charles (1874), Joseph Charles (1837) and Mary Anderson (1842), and John Anderson (1802) and Mary Ashley (1805). My wife's grandmother was Ethel Maud Godfrey (1897, daughter of Thomas Henry Godfrey (1862) and Amelia "Millie" Rose Lambert (1865). The Godfrey line we have only one generation further to Thomas Walker Godfrey (1833) and Harriet B. Mangel (1833?). We have no further information on the Lambert line.

If you have any information on any of these people, it would be much appreciated.
