John Rumford, son of John 3 and Anne Rumford, was probably born in New Jersey about 1725, and died in Gloucester County, New Jersey, in 1760. He was a farmer by trade, and had purchased three different tracts of land. He probably never married because in his will bearing date July 4, 1760, and proved August 5, 1760, there is no mention of a wife or children. The following is a copy of that will:
In the name of God amen. I John Rumford, Township of Greenwich in the County of Gloucester and western division of the province of New Jersey being weak in body but in perfect sound and memory remembering the mortality of my body doth take this opportunity to set my house in order. First I recommend my soul to God who gave it. Secondly my body to the earth from whence it was taken to be buried in a decent manner, and I leave unto my well beloved mother all my estate real and personal during her natural life and at her decease I give and bequeath all my real and personal estate unto my brothers and sisters to be equally divided, the one as much as the other and I leave my well beloved brothers, Elias Thomas and Jonathan Rumford executors of all my estate and my mother executor to this my last will and
testament. Witness my hand this 4th day of July in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and sixty.
