1. JOHN¹ TEDFORD was born 1796 in Virginia, and died 1860-1870 in Newton County, AR. He married NANCY SWAFFORD Abt. 1814, daughter of JACOB SWAFFORD and SARAH LARKIN.

Notes for JOHN TEDFORD:
John Tedford was drafted into the service of the Tennessee Militia in 1814 in Smith County, Tennessee. He served from January 28,1814 to May 9,1814 in Capt. Charles Hodges' Company, 3rd Tennessee Militia, Foot Infantry. He fought in the Creek War campaign at Horseshoe Bend, Talladega, Alabama on March 27,1814. He was discharged at Fayettville, Lincoln County, Tennessee. He was a draft substitute during his second tour of duty, mustering in at Camp Hynes, Jackson County, Tennessee. He served from November 13,1814 to May 13,1815 In Captain Matthew Cowan's Company of the 3rd Regiment, Tennessee Militia Mounted Infantry, and fought in the New Orleans campaign, January 8,1815. He was discharged at Maury County, Tennessee. Brother in law Larkin Swafford also served in Cowan's company, mustering in on the same date as John.

John received a warrant for bounty land in 1855 as a reward for his service in the War of 1812. The land was in Carroll County, Arkansas (later Newton County) where the family relocated in the early 1850's.
