| I am researching the MORGENTHALER Family name, originally from Switzerland. The original family came from the "Berns" area of Switzerland in 1873 and other family members followed in the early 1880's. The family landed and briefly lived in New York and later moved to Sand Dusky, Ohio. They were Masonaries and traveled frequently to the west coast for work. I have documents of them in California. Approximately, 1890-1898, the family traveled to Seattle, WA where they settled briefly. The booming logging business and the growth of smaller towns up north brought them to Bellingham, WA where they settled down to stay. I have the family members in the 1900 U.S. Census of Bellingham, WA. Peter Morgenthaler (born 1805 in Eggiwil, Switzerland) married Margerite Bichsel (born July 30, 1807) and had a family somewhere in the Berns area. They died in Switzerland and never made it to the United States. They had a son Frederick Morgenthaler born May 1833, who married Mary Baumgartner (born June 15, 1837). Frederick and Mary had eight children, John F.(born 12/25/1859), Godfrey (born 10/17/1863), Robert (born 1869), Ernest E. (born 1/1/1871), Elizabeth (born 1857), Rosa, Ida and Mary. This was the family that left for the United States. Most of these 10 people made it to the great northwest. Ida and Mary fell in love and married before reaching Bellingham. Through the years, the families prospered and grew and hundreds of names have been added to my pedigree chart. (For information sake, John F. Morgenthaler above was my great-great grandfather). To this day, I have no concrete evidence of exactly where my family came from in Switzerland. I have no information about Peter, Margerite and their family either. I would like to start with Peter and Margerite and go back in time with my charts. Any little bit of information would be greatly appreciated and I myself have many stories and pictures of my ancestors to share with anyone who is interested. |
