"In the name of God Amen: I James Taylor here by make my last will and testament in manner and form following to wit:

ITEM 1      I lend to my beloved wife Franky (Brockman) Taylor for and during her natural life all my land and whatever crop may be at my death plantation, tools and utensils household furniture and kitchen utensils all my cattle and stock of every kind (she paying out of the same all my just debts) also I lend my said wife during her natural life the following Negroes Viz Nanny Alee Walker, John Jacob Lydin and Handy.

I give to my son John Taylor a Negro boy named Bob, to him and his heirs forever.

I give to my daughter Betsy Cofer for and during her natural life a Negro girl Jinny and her increase and at the death of my said daughter I give and bequeath the said girl Jinny and her increase to the children of my said daughter Betsy to them and their heirs forever.

I wish at the death of my wife all her dower estate herein lent or given during her life in lieu of her dower (except the land which I have here in devised to my son Brockman Taylor and his heirs forever after the death of my daughter Franky) to be sold at the best bidder & the money equally divided among my following children and their heirs Viz John, Betsy, Franky, James, Jonathon & Brockman.

James Herring was a Revolutionary War Soldier. The 1830 census showed that he drew a revolutionary war pension from the state of Virginia.

Herring, James--Albemarle, Oct. 19, 1832. Born in Albemarle about 1854. Four times in service, once under Lt. Henry Austin, of Gen. Nelson's command, for two months around Williamsbur. Second tour under Capt. Miller, of Col. Mathews' regiment. From an old field he saw the enemy's fleet seven miles distant in the river (James?). Discharged after two months at Brock's Bridge. Thirde tour also two months and under Col. Mathews. Fourth term of one month at Charlottesville guarding a tory. Was drafted in each instance.
