Notes for NATHAN MORGAN: 11th child of James Morgan, son of Col. Zackquill Morgan, founder of Morgantown, West Virginia, USA. Not Married. Conducted two parties over the OREGON TRAIL. RE: American Genealogical Research Institute, Morgan The Family, Copyright 1975, p. 342: "Early in March in the year 1851, a train of covered wagons, drawn by ox-teams left Danville, Vermillion county, Illinois, for the long trip across the plains to Oregon. In that company of eighty people were many descendants of Colonel Morgan Morgan, who nearly one hundred and fifty years before had crossed the Atlantic to find a new home in America. "In this wagon train from Illinois, captained by David Froman, was Nathan Morgan (No. 124) and Drusilla Morgan Price, (No. 115) son and daughter of James (No. 25, 113), son of Col. Zackquill Morgan (No. 8, 19), of Morgantown.Nathan was a bachelor of middle age, Drusilla wasa widow, as her husband, James Price had died by accident a few years before, but with her were all her living children. All the members of this party reached the Willamette Valley, near the west coast of Oregon, on September 9th, and settled there in Linn County, around the town of Albany. "Ten years later another and similar wagon train left Indiana for the same destination. In this train were other Morgans.Nathan Morgan had returned to Virginia about 1858.Now, with his widowed sister, Levina Morgan Blount (No. 118), her children and grandchildren, and others he made the trip a second time. Nathan Morgan died sometime after the 1870 census.I cannot find him in 1880.In 1870 he is living with nephew-in-law, Squire Montgomery, in Linn Co., Oregon.Nathan is apparently buried in Albany Cemetery, Linn Do., Oregon.I wish we knew more about him.He conducted at least two wagon train groups over the Oregon Train, in 1851 and 1861.Numerous Morgan family members and probably neighbors were included in these wagon trains.I could not find an obit for him in Linn Co., but then did not have a death date.
