Marvin Motes

mmotes@motes.net

This project was established for the express purpose of examining all of, or as many variations of, the name Motes as we can obtain male Mo* volunteers to participate.

The Motes name or its variations seem to be concentrated in the Southern region of the United States.

My particular line descends from Jacob Moats, Sr. who was apparently born around the year 1745 maybe in VA or Germany. This is pure speculation, in that the first evidence of him appears in the form of a land patent in 1771 in an area of VA, now Franklin, WV. He married a woman named Barbara Elizabeth ??,who was possibly his second wife. The age of the children indicates that she would probably have been too young to have had some of the children. He died Nov.20,1820 in Pendleton Co.VA.

He was the father of John (mine), Adam, George, Jacob Jr., a dau.also Barbara Elizabeth (m.John Wamsley), and Michael.
