| The Mowers, related to Augustus Blodgett Mower, a civil war sgt with the 7th Wisconsin Flying Light Brigade, who died on August 21, 1864 in Memphis, one of only four people to perish that day fighting Nathan Bedford Forest! Also related to General Joseph A. Mower, the most decorated general in the Civil war, a favorite of Sherman, and his southern column in the march to the sea. My grandmother's side contains Czech people from two main families: Plachetka and Kolar. Anton Plachetkha was naturalized in 1892 in the city of Chicago, he was an "Austrian", then, Czech now. One of the Kolar brothers supposedly was a "bandit" in the west....while Vaclav (James} Kolar was naturalized in Chicago also, in 1888. |
