1. Michael² Mourer,Sr. (Jurg¹ Maurer) was born Abt. 1754, and died January 1786 in Shenandoah Co. Va.. He married Christina _____________? Abt. 1775 in Unknown.

The first record of Michael Mourer is in the Holy Communion records at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Strasburg Va. page 196-7, 22 June 1772, Name: John Michael Maurer, age 18 ( born 1754). He is mentioned next in his fathers will in 1775 and estate settlement papers. On 7 May 1778 Michael bought 150 acres from Thomas Lewis. Thomas Lewis appears to have been a land speculator as he bought and sold numerous parcels of property. The 150 acres was part of the upper end of a 300 acre land grant Thomas Lewis bought from Lord Fairfax dated 16th Oct. 1877. The land was located in the southern part of Shenandoah Co. VA. on the waters of Mill Creek near Forestville, VA. The other half of 150 acres was sold to Herry Roush by Thomas Lewis. In 1779 he served on a Grand Jury. On 28 Aug.1783 Michael & Christina his wife sold the said 150 acres to John Peck and signed his name in Dutch. In 1784 he is in court three times, listed as in debt & cannot pay his bills. In 1785 census he is listed with 9 white souls in the family. Some time before Feb. 1786, court records state, Michael Mowrer died ( About age 32 ) from injuries received from a fall off a horse. When looking at his estate settlement court records, it is found he was heavy in debt. The estate was not settled until 1791. From the 1785 census count it is likely there could be three more children not accounted for. The author has exhausted all areas of research in Shenandoah Co. Va. & Rockingham Co. Va. Some of the Rockingham Co. Va. records were burned during the Civil War and they may be the ones that would have held key information on Michael's descendants. The author feels much of Michaels line will dead end here.
