"Tradition, in support of which there is much circumstantial evidence, says that his wife died on the passage, and that he married a girl who came over on the same vessel. The name of the first wife is not known. The name of the second, whom he married before 1661, was Margaret.

He (John) divided his property among his children before his death, and left no will. He had elven children; one by first wife, Mary; ten by second wife, born in Exeter."
