* Marooned In Upper Canada*

Updated September 5, 2000

Greetings!

My maternal family has been in Ontario for about as long as there has been an English speaking presence here. This is the 4th century (18th, 19th, 20th, & now 21st) that we lived not more than a day's walk from our beautiful lake ... and we're STILL waiting for the welcoming committee :-) And whether we fled here from violent revolutionaries, or from economic disadvantage, or even famine, LOYAL WE REMAIN.

Man, I’m pompous and pretentious, thinking any but myself would care!

Still, I'm curious about where we came from before we got here, eh?

If our research overlaps, maybe we could exchange information.

If your family tree passes through the following geographic locations, we may be able to share info:

COLONIAL UPPER CANADA:
LENNOX & ADDINGTON COUNTY:
Napanee / Centerville / Enterprise / Camden Township area;
DURHAM COUNTY:
Manvers / Cavan /Port Hope area.

If it looks like we are researching similar trees, or researching similar jurisdictions, perhaps we can exchange information.

BUT, let me tell you what you WON'T find here:

Other than passing briefly through the American colonies in the 18th C. , I don't have any American ancestral connections. If you are doing U.S. family trees, we probably can't help each other much.

I won't put personal information (such as birthdates, etc.) about living family members on the Internet. Nor would I give such info out to strangers, and I urge people who do so to reconsider their actions (and if you want to ask why, I can tell you about the horrible misadventure a beloved family member had by trusting strangers on the net with personal information!)

I am not collecting lists of the living collateral descendants of my ancestors. If we happen to be distantly related and can exchange info, that's interesting and we could have a laugh about it, but I'm researching out of historical interest, not a hunt for a bone marrow donor :-)

Gee, the above makes me look kinda hostile. But I'm not, I just don't want people to waste their Internet time in places where there is nothing is to be gained for them.

Well. There ya have it. Drop me a line if you think we might have information we can share. I do already have a fair bit on the above families, and am happy to provide anything that may be of use to you.

Happy Data Prospecting!

Steve in Toronto
