The Muise Home Page

Updated May 27, 2003

My husband Paul and I have been researching our family trees for a several years.

His heritage is Acadian on both his motherís and fatherís side. The earliest ancestor we have for his Muise line is Nicolas Mius, born about 1507 in Grynn, Switzerland and was killed in the St. Bartholomewís Day Massacre in Paris in 1572. Nicolasí grandson was Phillipe Mius DíEntremont who was among the original French settlers in Nova Scotia in 1653.

Paulís motherís family is Comeau/Melanson, both names are also among the first settlers in Nova Scotia in the early 1600ís. We have a great deal of information on both of these families.

My ancestry is British and early Colonial New England. My fatherís name was Edward Gibson and he was born in Leicester, UK as was his father (Albert) born 1875 and his grandfather, Thomas born 1845 and ggrandfather, Thomas Gibson born 1804. That is as far as I have been able to go. His motherís family name is Shevyns from Sheffield, UK. Shevyns seems to be a uncommon name and I have found very little. The earliest ancestor I can find is Daniel Shevyns from Newark Upon Trent, Nottingham, UK in the early 1800s.

My motherís family is well documented as several generations have worked on the John Davis and James Calef families; and Charles Grant and Stephen Coffin families in early New England. The Davis and Coffin families were among the first settlers in the Haverhill, Amesbury and Newbury, MA in the early 1600s.

For more detailed information, see our family website at:

We are always interested any hearing from anyone who has an interest in these lines; and of course, finding any live cousins (1st, 3rd or ....)
