About Our Family Research

Looking for any information on the McEwans - originally from Ireland. My great grandparents, Charles McEwan, born abt 1839, and Elizabeth Fowler, born abt 1840, were married in County Down, Ireland, January 4, 1857/8. Arrived in Dreghorn, Scotland, about 1871. They had five children born in Ireland (John,1860; James, 1863; Maryann, 1864 [died 1864]; Sophia, 1864; William, 1870 [my grandfather). In Scotland, they had four more children born in Dalmellington, Ayrshire: Charles, 1872 (later emigrated to Australia); Robert, 1874; Thomas, 1877; and Agnes, 1879. My grandfather, William McEwan married Janet McNeil, born May 31, 1872, of Kilwinning, on February 16, 1894, in Dreghorn.
They had thirteen children (the youngest was my mother Janet); the eldest was born in Dreghorn and the others were born in Ochiltree, Ayrshire.

Also looking for information on the Muir side of family. My grandfather, Robert Muir, was born about 1871 in Ayrshire. He married Hettie Matilda Wiltshire (born October 29, 1877, Kirtling, Cambridgeshire) on November 26, 1907, St. James Church, Forest Gate, London, England. My father, Robert Muir, was born on March 15, 1909, Saltburn, Yorkshire. His younger brother, Alfred, was born on November 18, 1911, Wolviston, Yorkshire. My father was put in an orphanage after my grandfather died on September 23, 1917, Newton, Yorkshire. He was at the Church of England's St. Augustine's Boys Home, St. John's Road, Kent, England, from 1921-1924 when he was shipped on the SS Antonia to the Gibb's Boys Home in Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada, arriving April 7, 1924, to work as child slave labour on the farms in the area. I am looking for his brother Alfred who was kept with my grandmother and not put in an orphanage. He served with the British Navy (submarines) during WWII. He had two sons, one whose name is David.

Any information will be greatly appreciated.
