My family has made its mark all over the place really, but the majority of its homesteads have been, Italy, Holland, Ireland, England, France, and stateside in Virginia, North Carolina, New York, New Hampshire, Missouri and Massachusetts. The most prominent surnames in my research are Dozier, Vaughan, Moss, Minyard, Gray, VanLuik, Van Luijk, Dozier, D'Auge, Midyette, Hapgood, Stone, Mulcahy, DiGiulio, McMann, Houston, Caldwell, Sparrow, Yates, Blount and Nobles. I'm sure, everyone has a few family members out there that are "thorns in their sides". I know I do. Family members who managed to seemingly avoid being recognized in any official documentation. Those folks who may have information on my "thorns" are invited, if not begged, to share discoveries just as I invite you to partake in what little bit of knowledge I have. Currently I am having difficuties with several individuals. #1) My Dozier line is an issue. The research is not mine. It is my great grandmothers and she passed on before I could get an explination as to who was the Dozier/D'Auge connection. I have a book of court records of all the "original" D'Auges to SE Virginia and SE North Carolina but don't know when or where the name became Dozier and with who. #2) Lucy A. Taylor- she married Andrew J Smith but apparently materialized from nothing. I can't find any records of her before the marriage. #3) Beatrice Miller- oddly enough she is my great granmother- all 3 of her daughters are still living and yet not much info, just word of mouth. Father-William H. Miller, Mother-Mary Elizabeth LNUK. Mary Elizabeth was married and widowed 3 times before she was 30. Beatrice was the only child of William's but Mary had other children- Frank and Ouida, with another husband, possibly Ferris. Family came to Norfolk, Virginia but from where is unknown. Prob. Ohio, Indiana. #4) Martin Moss' 2nd wife Fanny Merryman- Possible alien spy- no records of her birth or parents that I have found. #5)George Washington Houston- the only info available on him is because he married My Grandma Alice Houston in 1859 #6) The Minyards of Franklin County Georgia all married orphans. I have no parents for Martha Addison or Mary Guest. Both early 1800's #7) Augusta Ange- Her dad was Porter Ange-"1/2 Chowan" and mom was Matilda LNUK-"indentured servant" All in North Carolina in early 1800's. #8) Hardy Todd was Ares' Pop but has no history of his own. #9)My Mulcahys of Cohasset, Mass all Have orphans for wives as well. Mary Edna Stillings, Hannah Agnes Hart, Margaret Cronican and Mary Morrisey #10) George O Beckwith and Carrie Sands are a problem thay've been spotted together in the 1930 census but George is without parents as is Carrie. She was born in the Bahamas. I thought that that might help narrow tings down a bit. However, when I try to look up info on her I get a bunch of hotels advertising the "powdery sands of the Bahama Islands" AND THE PRIZE FOR BIGGEST THORN IN MY SIDE GOES TO: #11) Matthew Vincent DiGiulio b:1909- immigrated to the US as an infant (then Matteo) with parents (Antonio & Rosa) and 2 older brothers (Biagio & Vincenzo) Mom & Dad later hed Marie & Rose in the US.PLEASE HELP. I have no info for this side of the family. Not even a town to start asking for records from in Italy. I only have 3 tidbits on him: owned restaurant on Cooney Island; he died due to complications from diabeties; he is buried on Long Island in St. Charles Cemetery (plot owner Betty Digiulio & he used the D'Ippolito Funeral Home) ANYTHING WILL HELP
