These pages contain research on the ancestors of my grandfather, Leonard Manly MUMFORD. The MUMFORD line originates in South Kingston, Rhode Island. I believe that the Nathaniel MUMFORD listed in these pages is the son of Simon Ray MUMFORD, who is included in the book "Mumford Family in America" by Sherrie Styx (1994). If anyone has information that might connect Nathaniel and Simon Ray, please let me know.
Families related to the MUMFORD line include HELME, KENYON, MEECH, and PHILLIPS. The MEECH line descends from Stephen (Wallbridge) MEECH and can be found in "Descendants of Henry Wallbridge" by William Gedney Wallbridge (1898).
Other main surnames being researched are BIRD and BUCKINGHAM. The BIRD line starts with William BIRD, born in Cumberland County, England around 1793. He and his wife, Ann DODD, moved to Quebec, Canada around 1832 and then migrated to Truxton, New York in 1848. He settled in Olmsted County, Minnesota in 1857. Related families in this line include GRAHAM, GODDARD, HAZZARD, TWENTYMAN, and WALDRON. Any further information on this line would be appreciated.
My BUCKINGHAM line extends back to Thomas BUCKINGHAM who was born in England in 1646 and immigrated to Connecticut. Information on this line can be found in "Family Descendants of Thomas Buckingham of Milford, CT" by F.W. Chapman (1872). (Any information about John Dwight BUCKINGHAM after his third marriage to Zylpha FOOTE would be greatly appreciated.)
I have also included the GOODINE and THOMAS ancestors of my maternal grandfather, Louis GOODINE. The main locations for GOODINE are Quebec, New Brunswick, and Alberta. The THOMAS surname is of Metis descent and connects with the Red River Valley Metis and the Fort Pelly Ojibway. Locations include Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, and Montana.
