Larry's father's family came from Ireland during the potato famine and settled in Huron County, Ohio. His mother's family came from France and Switzerland, and settled in Pennsylvania and then eventually Stark County, Ohio. So, we're researching the Murray and McMahon families in Ireland, and Huron and Erie Counties, Ohio; the Vourron family in France and Stark County, Ohio; as well as the Shirk (Schurch) family in Switzerland, Pennsylvania, Ohio and Indiana. (If you're researching families in the Louisville, Ohio area -- which is in Stark County -- be sure to check out the link below. It is to the Louisville Public Library, which has many, many obituaries available through their on-line index. We've learned a great deal about Larry's maternal family from this website.)
Carole's family comes from Tennessee (mostly Sevier and Cocke Counties). They were among the first wave of Irish immigrants, along with some ancestors from England and Germany. They have been in America for many, many generations, some having even fought in the Revolutionary War. Names we're researching in that area are Maddron, McMahan, Eslinger, Stinnett, Large, King, Reagan, Ogle, Emert, Bohanan and Flinn, just to name a few. We usually tell people: if you're searching for someone in Sevier County, Tennessee, Carole is probably related to them! ha! Check out the list of Carole's relations -- all the way from George Washington (yes, THAT George Washington) to Dolly Parton!
Many of our relatives have shared photos of their families with us, along with photos of our ancestors. To access those, simply go to Index of Individuals and if there is a camera icon shown next to a name, we have a photo of them.
Our current family photos, along with some olders ones as well, can be found at: http://irishmurr.smugmug.com
