5. Hiram Coral² Matteson (Hiram¹) was born 16 Jul 1841 in Horicon, NY, and died 05 Mar 1882 in Chatteagay, NY. He married Martha Cornelia Worden 28 Jan 1861, daughter of Thomas Worden and Hannah Cummins. She was born 23 Oct 1842 in Ft. Edward, NY, and died 26 Oct 1879 in Dunhams Basin, NY.

Died. Matteson. On March 5th, 1882, near Chateaugay county, after one week's illness, of pleuro-pneumonia, Hiram C. Matteson, of Sandy Hill, Washington county, aged 42. Mr. Matteson was on a visit to his brother, Mr. J.P. Matteson, of Gouverneur, and went with him to assist in taking down and removing a large mill which Starbuck, McCarty & Co. had purchased and intended to remove to Gouverneur. The party left Gouverneur for Chateaugay on February 14th. Mr. Matteson was taken suddenly sick on Sunday, March 26th and died the following Sunday. The remains were brought to Gouverneur on the first train Tuesday morning and a brief funeral service held at the residence of Mr. J.P. Matteson in the afternoon, and they were taken to Sandy Hill, Mr. M's former home, on Wednesday. Mr. Matteson leaves four interesting girls, ranging from 10 to 19 years of age who have the sympathy of a large circle of friends in their bereavement.
