Obion County in West Tennessee, one of the state's three "grand divisions,"
was created in 1823 from the Chickasaw Indian Cession and named for the Obion River.
The county seat is Union City.

Descendant. Vol. 5 Compendium of American Genealogy lists the following: "4 Jacob, b. Tenn., of English Descent. No. 3 John C., b. Tenn., 1832, d. 1880. No. 2 John, b. Tenn., 1867, d. 1899, changed name from Blacksher to Blackshare.Josiah Arthur Blackshare, b. Stoddard Co., Mo., 1887, adopted by Cossairt."

NOTE: An entry from the book "Tennessee Cousins" located in the Macon, Ga library states the following relative to the settlement of Hardin County Tennessee: "It was in the year 1820, shortly after Hardin County was established, that the HANNA (possibly spelled HANNAH) came out from Union County, above Knoxville, and settled. They came down the Tennessee river in a flat boat by way of the Rolston and landed at White's Ferry - now known as Cerro Cordo, in the month of March, 1820. They settled between Indian Creek and Smith's Fork. This John Hanna and his wife Rebecca had the following children: (a) William Hanna, (b) James Hanna, (c) John Hanna (d) David Hanna(e) Alexander Hanna (f) Hugh Hanna (g) Hannah Hanna (h) Elisabeth Hanna. About the same time: (a) Jacob Blackshear (b) John White (c) David Kincannan(d) Ninnean Steele (e) John Boyd (f) Jacob Pyburn (1820) the following families came to Hardin County, with their families andsettled (g) William Wisdom (h) Alex Sloan, (i) Temple Johnson (j) John Dickson(k) R. N. Dickson (l) Robert Forbes (m) James Doren (n) Jesse Cherry and (o) William Duckworth".This Jacob Blackshear is thought to be the son of Jesse Blackshear (1767).
(Note: This Jacob Blackshear (1802) was the son of Jesse Blackshear (born 1767) who had migrated to Tennessee (Williamson County area) with the Dillahunty Party from North Carolina around 1795-1796).
